One of the primary differences we noticed about the Japanese was their concern about others.  A simple
example is this picture taken at a very crowded street market.  Once I set up my camera on the tripod,
nobody would walk in front of it and the entire area almost cleared.  Concerned that I was in fact
inconveniencing them, I would look the other way or talk to my son, to signal that I was not
taking a picture at that moment.  No good, the camera was up and they were not going
to walk in front of it until it was down!
