Happy Thanksgiving everyone! It's time to pause and appreciate how much
we have and how lucky we are. I tell my children that we Americans live
better than 98% of the world; we live in a free land, enjoy democracy,
have abundant food and are blessed with many comforts. I was also privileged to spend 8 hours photographing in front of the
Viet Nam Memorial or "The "Wall." I watched with great reverence the many
people who came by to look, to say hello, to say good-bye and to honor
family they had never known. It was a very sobering experience.

New Images - The West Virginia Trip ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I visited West Virginia at the absolute best time of year! The weather was perfect, it was warm and the fall colors were almost at their peak. If only I had rented that convertible! I drove all around West Virginia and was surprised at how beautiful it was. I got off the highways and onto the back roads, that's the only real way to see America in my opinion. I took almost 2000 images on that trip, weeded it down to about 50 by the end of my first review and now present my final 8 images.
The Viet Nam Wall in Washington DC ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is not much I can say about the Viet Nam Wall except "58,253." This is the number of names on The Wall and the title of my image above. It was a sobering experience to watch people at The Wall for 8 hours. I was impressed with the reverence that even the most casual tourist observed as they walked past the names. As I stood there, looking at the pictures of 19 year old soldiers, I couldn't help but wonder what their lives might have been like if they had lived. What contributions they might have made and what families they might have raised. I came away with only 3 final images that day, but it made a big impact on my attitude towards the men and women who serve in our military, including my two sons.
