The poem
“Invictus” by William Ernest Henley has been the inspiration for my
-
"Light Emanating
From Darkness" portfolio; it is the verbal counterpart to my images.
-
“OUT of the
night that covers me,
-
Black as the Pit
from pole to pole,
-
I thank whatever
gods may be
-
For my
unconquerable soul”
-
My images
attempt to convey pride but not arrogance, to communicate strength
-
and
perseverance. The light in my work represents that spirit.
-
“In the fell
clutch of circumstance
-
I have not
winced nor cried aloud.
-
Under the
bludgeoning of chance
-
My head is
bloody, but unbowed”
-
-
Darkness is a
part of life and a characteristic of my images, but
-
light radiates
out from the shadows in the photographs.
-
“Beyond this
place of wrath and tears
-
Looms but the
Horror of the shade,
-
And yet the
menace of the years
-
Finds, and shall
find, me unafraid”
-
-
“Light Emanating
From Darkness” is a message of hope, of pride and self-
-
determination,
which is the concept and soul of my work. This portfolio
-
is about the
struggle of light against darkness that we experience as humans.
-
“It matters not
how strait the gate,
-
How charged with
punishments the scroll,
-
I am the master
of my fate:
-
I am the captain
of my soul”
-
-
“Light Emanating
From Darkness” is the message that light cannot be
-
overcome or
suppressed.
